The Microarray Core Facility is a component of the UAlbany Center for Functional Genomics and was established to provide the infrastructure to enable the development of major projects that utilize DNA microarrays for large scale analysis of gene expression. The DNA Microarray Center currently employs two technologies for gene expression analysis: Affymetrix GeneChip arrays and custom-produced spotted cDNA microarrays. Projects developed through the DNA Microarray Center have made use of Affymetrix arrays from both eukaryotic as well as prokaryotic genomes. The Facility is also currently developing specialized custom printed arrays to examine gene expression in mouse tissues as part of a NIH funded Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Center.

The DNA Microarray Center also provides bioinformatics tools for further analysis of the results of expression experiments.

The Facility provides the following services to investigators from any academic institution as well as corporate customers.

Affymetrix GeneChip Analysis

The CFG Microarray Core Facility will accept tissue, total RNA or labeled and fragmented cRNA for GeneChip analysis.

Our premier service includes all protocols from RNA isolation to data collection while full service constitutes all steps from cDNA synthesis from submitted RNA samples to data collection. Our custom services include synthesis and labeling of cRNA and rehybridization of previously labeled and fragmented cRNA.

Eppendorf DualChip arrays
The CFG is an authorized service provider for Eppendorf Dual Chip microarrays. The core can process DualChip microarrays for gene expression as well as transcription factor microarrays.
Spotted cDNA Array Analysis
The Facility intends to make this service available to users in the near future. We currently spot our custom glass slides with cDNAs obtained by amplification of the ~9,400 IMAGE consortium mouse cDNA clones.
Data mining Services
The Core Facility has a variety of academic and commercial data mining software including GeneSpring (Silicon Genetics), Microarray Suite and Data Mining Tool (Affymetrix).

Validation of expression analysis data

The facility offers a myriad of services for validation of gene expression data including Sybyr Green and Taqman quantitative PCR assays.
