Associate Director
Center for Functional Genomics
Professor of Biology

Dr. Cunningham is Professor of Biological Sciences at the University at Albany. He received his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University and received postdoctoral training at Yale University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Cunningham's research is focused on mechanisms of DNA repair. Specifically, his laboratory is studying the biochemistry and genetics of base excision repair in bacteria and humans. Another project in his laboratory involves the genetic and enzymological characterization of a novel repair system for purine analogs in bacteria, yeast, and mammals.
